March 2025

February flew by in a flash! This month, we focused on essential housekeeping tasks and updating our documentation to keep everything running smoothly. While it may not be the most glamorous work, these behind-the-scenes efforts set the foundation for exciting things ahead. Stay tuned for what’s coming next!
Base 🔵
Foundations
Consolidated variables related to light and dark modes (specifically color aliases ) into a new ‘theme’ collection and removed unnecessary modes from other variables.
Documentation & guidelines
- Added a set of guidelines to dot-design component pages to help users navigate specific quirks and best practices for working with components in Figma.
- Updated the table of contents plugin on dot-design to enhance flexibility and functionality, now including a visual indicator to show users their current position on the page.
Platform 🟢
Components
- Updated icon references to source from Foundations.
- Aligned all icon overrides in Platform web to reference Foundations for consistency.
- Resolved an issue with input: Base and moved it to the completed section.
- Retired the old XXL avatar size and renamed XXXL as the new XXL.
- Finalized the Menu component and added it to the completed section.
- Completed refinements for List Item and List Group, moving them to the completed section.
Library/architecture
Our Platform web library got a fresh new look with an updated library cover and redesigned headers for each page. We also improved accessibility by linking all components directly to their respective documentation, making it easier to find the information you need.
Documentation & guidelines
The following components have been added to the Platform implementation site, providing further documentation on how to use each component effectively:
- Input: Base
- Menu
- List group
- Tab bar
Consumer 🟣
This month we conducted a full audit of Consumer iOS to assess which component updates would have the greatest impact and touch the most screens. Our focus was on identifying opportunities for incremental improvements while ensuring consistency across platforms. We’re still defining the best path forward on how to implement these updates effectively.
While our approach may vary across platforms, our goal remains the same—maintaining a cohesive, high-quality design system that integrates native components wherever possible. More updates to come as we refine our strategy!
What’s next? 🔮
Next month, we’re focusing on a few key items:
- Figma community library cleanup. We’re working on final cleanup efforts to prepare our base libraries for posting on the Figma community page, making them more accessible to the public.
- Component refinements. We’re systematically reviewing all published components to reassess and refine design details. This discovery process will help align components more closely with ongoing work, focusing on subtle design tweaks that enhance consistency and cohesion across the system.
- Consumer iOS. We’re collaborating with the iOS team to explore component updates that improve consistency with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.
More updates to come as we push forward with these efforts!

"I recently went down a rabbit hole with Mischief the cat—the one who went viral on TikTok for basically making an entire city in the UK his home. His followers even put together a map of all the places he’s been, and the icons bring me so much joy."

“I am obsessed with the Ants Canada YouTube channel! It’s this guy who has created a rainforest in his home and lets nature play out. He’s a little annoying but I suffer through him to watch the AnT dRaMa (it’s not just ants, it’s everything that might live in a rainforest. Except birds. And mammals. AM I DOING A GOOD JOB SELLING THIS OR WHAT)”
